The joke didn’t land with Scarlett Johansson.

The Asteroid City actress revealed what she really thought of a controversial joke that husband Colin Jost made about her during a joke swap with his Weekend Update cohost Michael Che on Saturday Night Live in December.

“I just can’t believe that they went there,” Scarlett told InStyle in an interview published March 11. “It was so vulgar. It was so gross. It was really gross. And, like, old-school gross.”

E! News has reached out to SNL for comment and hasn’t heard back.

During the exchange, Colin said, “Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu. But I ain’t trippin’. I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid,” before the camera cut to Scarlett backstage at SNL, where she mouthed, “Oh my God.”

“No, no, I’m just playin’, baby,” her husband continued. “You know I don’t go downtown.”

The camera cut back to the Black Widow actress—mom to son Cosmo, 3, with Colin and daughter Rose, 10, with Romain Dauriac—who audibly gasped in response. And, while she was given a heads up that Michael had written a “vagina joke” about her, she didn’t expect it to go so far.

“I was like, ‘I mean, it’s a vagina joke, how bad could it be?’” Scarlett recalled to InStyle. “And then as soon as the Costco photo came up, I was like, ‘No! No! Michael!’”

But it was the fact that cameras were there to capture her real-time reaction that really left her a bit shaken.

“The fact that it took on a full To Catch a Predator-style reveal or whatever? That was so intense,” Scarlett explained with a laugh. “All of a sudden, it was like a whole bunch of people holding up lights, and a guy with a video camera.”

“They were waiting for me to react,” she went on, noting that she’d already been at the studio all day. “I felt insane. I was like, ‘I think I’m going to faint.’”

And while she didn’t faint, the 40-year-old remembered commiserating with her husband of four years about the whole ordeal later that night when they went to bed around 4 a.m.

“I was like, ‘My nerves are shot,’” Scarlett shared. “And Colin said, ‘Me too.’”

Back in January, the longtime Saturday Night Live star recounted his own perspective on the situation.

“I’m in trouble I think with a lot of people,” he said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January. “Scarlett was genuinely so shocked.”

“I was obviously surprised by everything,” he continued, “but they gave her a heads up and they were like ‘Hey would you be okay if Michael made kind of a little vagina joke at some point?’ and she’s like, ‘Sure, whatever I’m open to it.’”

Colin reiterated that he “didn’t know where it was going” before reading the joke live on air.

As he explained, “The graphic came up for Arby’s and so Scarlett is backstage like, ‘Oh my god, that’s what it is.’”
