For Lainey Wilson, the road to stardom wasn’t an overnight development. The country singer might sit on top of the genre thanks to albums like Whirlwind, but at one time, she wanted nothing more than to perform her songs on stage. Never losing sight of that dream, Wilson eventually found her way to the spotlight. And over the last few years, she dominated country music and continued to expand her career. Recently, she attended the Broken Bow Records Decades Party and decided to honor Jon Bon Jovi when she covered his hit song “Livin’ on a Prayer.”
Released in 1986 on the Slippery When Wet album, “Livin’ on a Prayer” became a signature song for the band Bon Jovi. Since its release, the song sold over 13 million copies and became one of the best singles of all time. Written by Bon Jovi, Desmond Child, and Richie Sambora, the hit song landed the group their first No.1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.
Although knowing the legacy surrounding the song, Wilson appeared to have fun when the song started to play. Captured by American Songwriter’s own Cindy Watts, Wilson worked the crowd, getting many of them to perform the song alongside her. With the crowd singing along and Wilson all smiles, the Decades Party seemed like a giant karaoke event.
Later on in the evening, Wilson linked with her good friend and country superstar Jelly Roll, along with Alexandra Kay, to cover Garth Brooks’ “Friends In Low Places.”
Lainey Wilson Ready To Get “Bored”
Having found her footing in country music, Wilson refused to waste time as she consistently released songs and toured the country. While loving every minute, the singer admitted to getting some sound advice from Miranda Lambert. “She was like, ‘It’s so important for me to get out there and scoop the poop and throw the hay and catch the horses. Those are the things that remind you what’s really important.’”
Wanting Wilson to pace herself, the singer agreed, admitting she needed to get “Bored.” But at the same time, Wilson is always looking for the next hit. “The truth is I can always fight for creativity. I’ve been able to write with such incredible writers [who] taught me how to put myself into the shoes of whatever we’re writing.”
Learning the craft of songwriting from some of the best names in country music, Wilson soaked in their knowledge and released hit songs like “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” and “Heart Like A Truck.”
