A mother had the sweetest reaction to her daughter’s engagement.

Shortly after Brandon Wong, 26, popped the question to Camella La Compte, 25, at Montage Laguna Beach in California on Jan. 26, they were met with congratulations from their family and friends. The bride-to-be’s mother, Juliet La Compte, 54, had the most memorable reaction of all.

“My mom ran down from the terrace she was watching the proposal on. As soon as she reached us, she was already screaming!” Camella tells PEOPLE. “She saw the ring and immediately broke [down]. She was so happy and filled with tears.”

Juliet helped her daughter’s longtime love plan the surprise engagement.

“She loved being in the entire process, it was a dream come true for her!” Camella says.

Camella’s family told her they were going to the luxury resort to have an early joint birthday celebration for her and her sister. In reality, Wong was excitedly preparing to propose.

“My immediate family was meant to be there, but as soon as Brandon got down on one knee, I noticed all of my AND his loved ones were there,” Camella recalls. “One of my best friends flew in from Austin, Texas, to be there! It was such a special moment for us and our family.”

Camella said in a viral TikTok video of Juliet’s reaction — which included photos taken by Christine Doan — that her mother is her “biggest supporter” and that her response to her engagement will always make her “emotional.”

“It felt like we were both just two girls in our own world,” she tells PEOPLE. “My mom taught me so much about love and being a woman. She helped me through so many old heartbreaks, so this moment for us just felt so full circle.”

The “special” proposal location also signified a full circle moment for the couple. Wong and Camella attended rival high schools and met during their senior year. The pair spent the majority of their summer before college at the Montage, where they fell more and more in love.

“My fiancé and I have been dating for eight years, so my family and friends feel as [if] they’ve also been waiting for this moment,” Camella says. “So it was an extremely emotional moment for us.”
