The artist Grimes made a public plea to Elon Musk to keep their children away from the internet and media attention. Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), the 36-year-old singer expressed her frustration after the billionaire took their eldest son, X Æ A-XII, 4 years old, to a press conference at the White House last month.

“I’ve tried pleading with the public and the father of my children to keep them disconnected, and I’ve even attempted legal action,” the singer wrote.

She also warned about the dangers of early exposure to social media: “I’ve seen young people destroyed by the internet… The fact that my children’s lives are public is a huge concern for me, and I think about how to resolve it every day.” Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, lamented the lack of effective legal mechanisms to protect children’s privacy in situations like hers: “I wish there were a law that allowed a parent to veto their young children from living public lives, but I don’t even trust that the law would help me now if I tried to invoke it.”

Batalla legal entre Elon Musk y Grimes por la custodia de sus hijos

In February, Grimes had already expressed her disagreement with the media exposure of her eldest son, after Musk, 53, took him to a public event at the White House.

The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX appeared with X Æ A-XII on his shoulders while President Donald Trump signed an executive order related to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk oversees. The singer claimed she was unaware that her son would attend the event and only learned about it when a follower shared the images on social media.

“He shouldn’t be in public like this. I didn’t see this, thanks for alerting me,” Grimes replied on X.

Grimes and Musk, who were in a relationship from 2018 to 2022, have three children together:

  • X Æ A-XII, 4 years old
  • Exa Dark Sideræl, 3 years old
  • Techno Mechanicus, 1 year old

Since their separation, they have been involved in legal disputes over custody and parental rights. In October 2023, they filed lawsuits against each other for the custody of their children. Amidst these conflicts, Grimes has also accused Musk of ignoring medical issues regarding their children. In an interview with Time, the singer reiterated her wish for her children’s privacy to be respected:

“I really wish people would stop posting pictures of my child everywhere. I think fame is something you have to consent to. I can only ask for it, so that’s all I’m doing.”

So far, Elon Musk has not publicly responded to Grimes’ statements.
