More than 160,000 people in Canada have signed a parliamentary petition calling for Elon Musk to be stripped of his Canadian citizenship due to his ties to Donald Trump, who during his second presidential term has repeatedly issued threats toward Canada, including the possibility of making it his 51st state.

The petition was launched by British Columbia author Qualia Reed in the Canadian House of Commons, where it was sponsored by MP Charlie Angus , an outspoken Musk critic and member of the New Democratic Party.

Musk’s relationship with the former US president has sparked outrage among millions of Canadians, especially following Trump’s threats to impose high tariffs on Canadian goods and his comments about possible annexation of the country .

In the wake of these events, it has been argued that Musk, by aligning himself with Trump , is acting against Canadian sovereignty.

Popular support for the petition has been significant . Reed’s request has reportedly surpassed 167,000 signatures , with a growing number of people backing the measure suggesting that the number could continue to rise.

In the context of Canadian politics, petitions like this one must reach at least 500 signatures to be formally considered by the House of Commons and could lead to an official response from Justin Trudeau’s government . The deadline to sign the petition expires on June 20.
