Fox News Contributor Kat Timpf Learned She Had Breast Cancer Hours Before Giving Birth to Her Son
“I’m lucky that we found the cancer so early; I’m lucky to be my son’s mom,” Timpf wrote
Fox News contributor Kat Timpf learned that she had breast cancer hours before giving birth to her son.
On Tuesday, Feb. 25, Timpf, 36, who first announced her pregnancy last July, revealed in a post shared on Instagram and X that she and husband Cameron Friscia welcomed their first child together hours after she learned that she had breast cancer.
Referring to it as an “unconventional birth announcement,” Timpf wrote, “Last week, I welcomed my first child into the world. About fifteen hours before I went into labor, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.”
The Gutfield! panelist advised her followers that her doctor said her cancer is in Stage 0 “and is confident that it almost certainly hasn’t spread.”

The National Breast Cancer Foundation explains on its website that Stage 0 is “the earliest stage of breast cancer” and “is highly treatable when detected early.”
Timpf wrote that finding out about her diagnosis, however, “was not a chill day.”
“I woke up more-than-a-week-past-due pregnant, completely consumed by doing everything I could to get the baby out,” Timpf wrote. “By the middle of the afternoon, I was waddling around from appointment to appointment, talking about how to get my cancer out.”

She said that it was during those appointments that she was told “the best course of action would likely be a double mastectomy as soon as possible.”
She credited hospital staff for being “excellent audiences for dark humor.”
“Just minutes after my boy was born, I was talking with the nurses about what a birth announcement in my situation might look like,” she explained.

Timpf said she is still getting used to her “new reality,” as her next three months of maternity leave are set to be “a lot different than I’d anticipated.”
“Still, as I navigate new motherhood (and new cancer) I’m learning to celebrate everything I can. I’m lucky that we found the cancer so early; I’m lucky to be my son’s mom,” she wrote. “I mean, I know I’m biased, but the little dude absolutely rules — and not just because he might have saved my life.”
The new mom ended her post by thanking everyone for their support, writing, “Here’s to resilience, to miracles in the midst of chaos, and to finding humor and hope even on the toughest days.”
